Voting Question: Knocking Problem with 2004 Jeep Liberty Renegade?

We have a 2004 Jeep Liberty Renegade 3.7 4wd. Never had a problem with it. Last week engine started knocking (there seemed to be an additional knock when you sped up that you could feel vibrate the gas pedal), losing power, and started smoking (white smoke). Got the Jeep checked out at parts store via computer. It said there was a problem with cylinder 6. Replaced the plug and coil, but that did not fix the problem. What could this be? Oh....and to the "bargain basement oil" comment, why do you assume I used a cheap oil? We actually use Castrol GTX.....

Resolved Question: Jeep offroading quetion with brush guard?

I want to take my 1998 jeep grand cherokee offroading (nothing to straining) maybe forest trails and sand dunes. I was told to receive a brush guard for the sand dunes in case i bottom out my jeep to protect the underside. I thought brush guards protected the headlights and parts of the grill. Is there a different type of brush guard i havent found or is there another name for it? I was also told about a bull bar... That seems similar to that of a brush guard that protects the headlights and grill...

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo that is a little beat up on the right side because the guy I bought it from flipped it in a ditch. The car runs fantastic as of right now (knock on wood). But I would like to fix the right part. I need a new door, passenger side finder, the part over the wheel is also a little messed up, and I need new bumpers. I would like to receive a door from a junk yard. But any other Ideas on where I can find body parts and not pay a total killing?

Voting Question: tapping sound from engine?

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that has a 4.0 straight 6, automatic transmision, 4wd (part time and full), that will be going on 216,000 miles, which is great. Everything is original, except the gaskets from the block up because we recently had antifreeze in the oil and replaced the head gasket which fixed it. If i can remember, it has done this before the gasket replacement, it has a real faint tap coming from the driver's side of the engine that disappears with increased rpms. It sounds like someone would be tapping on something very lightly with a screw driver. And for the people that think it could have anything to do with the tranny or torque converter, it is neither of them. I steer this daily up and down our 3 tenths of a mile driveway to and from the bus. Since it doesn't receive driven much, I start it every day about 10 minutes before I leave. I added every of this information to help with your decision of the answer, and to let you know that i do not beat on it like other teenagers. Thanks for the help with what you think might be wrong. We have 50 acres and once in a while i will go to the field and go ripping around it (not beating on it though), and i beg to differ on the start and go because, when you start it and take off instantly, you are pumping every the oil up into the block and that is how you ruin your bearings because then they have no oil. Also we cleaned the engine out when we did the head gasket so there shouldn't be any sludge in it. Lastly I have mobile1 in it.

Resolved Question: I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Limited and the blower motor has quit working. Here is how it slowly died. First?

speeds 1 through 3 gave out. So i operated it just on 4 for some time. now just recently speed 4 gave out. It would arrive and go but i could usually receive it to work with a little motivational tap on the vacuum part in the passenger foot well or if i went over a bump. Now it wont work at every. I assume the resistor is shot because speeds 1 through 3 dont work but is the motor shot too? or would replacing the resistor solve the problem? i am fine with just speed 4 so could i just replace the motor and not the resistor and receive speed 4 back?

Resolved Question: Help me find my second car?

Hey there, currently I steer a 2002 Honda Civic LX. For the most part I really like it, it's a nice little car. However, there's so many little rattles in the interior and the whole vehicle just feels very plasticy. Mind you this is my first car so maybe every cars are like this in my price range? However, I'm looking for a larger vehicle around the same price point (4000-5500) I don't care about gas mileage or anything like that. I'm 17 and don't plan on having this car forever haha. But I've been looking at Jeep Grand Cherokee's, Ford Ranger's, Dodge Dakota's, old Mercedes E320's. It needs to be at least a V6 that looks nice. Thanks a lot!

Resolved Question: why do i have such weird dreams?

most of the time they aren`t scary, but they are just so bizarre and never make sense. in one night i had two dreams: one was where people were hunting bigfoot and i was saying how i wanted to shoot it and everyone was shocked at this. in my dream bigfoot is lured by bread (i know, dumb right?) and the scene shifts to two people in a jeep before the forets and when the guy gets out the second passanger---some blonde chick----drives gleefully into the woods but crashes. i for some reason appear curled up beside the jeep and spot the trap used to lure bigfoot and i close my eyes and hear screams of the girl. aparently the logic in this dream was that if you dont look bigfoot he wont look you. but he ends up grabbing me and attempts to rip me apart but this giant dart appears in my hand (and in the dream i have this like flashback moment of what the dart is and how i obtained it) and stab it into his arm and i am rescued. then if the dream shifted to me walking down a forest path where ripped up corpses killed by bigfoot hang and there is a brief scene in which i look a campsite with several bigfoots. then i woke up and went back to snooze. my second dream that night was even more wierd. i was at a tweaked version of my old home where a party was going on. i dont remember much of this dream i just remember that in one part dumbldore showed up with his beard trimmed into a long goute and his hair short and he had on a odd robe with a thin cap. he told me he wanted to talk to me and guide me into a backroom with candles and colorful tapestries and gave me a diary of a dead girl who seemed to have written it in death because she described the day she died when i read it. he also gave me a musty looking ball with a closed eye in the middle which ends up opening. afs im reading the diary this person jumps in and nabs one of my rick riordan books. i grab it back and start hitting the person in the face with it. i apparently knew the person because i was yelling at the person like we had many run ins. i had another very weird dream last night but you receive the picture i wish. i actually dreamed what i described and i have no idea why. do you? any asumptions would be great! (p.s. im not not any medication. i dont drink or do drugs and every i had for a snake was an english muffin with peanut butter which i had many times when i didnt have weird dreams) umm, im a girl (and straight) so what the heck does balls have to do with this? lol! pancakes? that must have been odd :)

Voting Question: I just moved up to Alberta and I need to install daytime driving lights?

I just moved to Edmonton and I found out I have to install a daytime driving light kit to register it here. I purchased a universal type kit that they sell at Canadian Tire and Part Source, and installed it every except the green 12v wire. I think it is just to signal the module to turn on. The instructions say to hook it in to a spark plug wire or oil pressure swtich, but I have coil packs and no spark plug wires and I don't really wanna be cutting into the oil pressure switch wiring. The wire is too short to wire into the fuse box area. Anybody have any recommendations as to where to hook up the green 12v power wire? Its a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0.

The Jeep sped dangerously quick, and every seven heads simultaneously jerked left and right as the tiny vehicle toppled in and out of the potholes that littered the dirt path. Finally, and after only three months of pleading like a stubborn child, I was granted an audience with the man some call visionary, others ruthless warlord, and still others…too crazy to be either. Sitting in the front seat, next to the driver, was General Mbizu. A burgundy beret laid on top of his head and he peered forward with a look of stoic power through dark aviator glasses. John rummaged around his pack equipment for what seemed like ages and brought his camera out. “General, pehaps we could ge- ” Almost immediately the camera was snatched out of the air by one of the two rebel soldiers standing in the back of jeep. Resolved Question: The speedometer, odometer, radio are out on my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

We bought a used Jeep Grand Cherokee in pretty good shape. However, the radio quit pretty quick. The speedometer and odometer never worked. A mechanic pal looked at it and said he can't tell off the bat what's wrong, BUT that it doesn't have a cable. How do I receive this fixed? Is it something I can do on my possess with some car repair experience? (Can change a starter, battery, spark plugs, stuff like that.) If so, what part/s would I need and about how much would it run? Voting Question: If you replace a leaking power steering pressure hose, is it going to make the steering wheel tighter?

I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee and as you probably know, it has a very tight steering radius. I can do a u turn in places that even the smallest cars can't. But for the last four years, I didn't know that I have had a leaking power steering pressure hose. I was having to replace my power steering fluid every month. I thought that the actual gasket had a hole in it, and it would have been a lot of money to replace it, so i was fine with having to replace the fluid because every seemed fine after I would add more. But I just got the hose replaced today. I haven't driven my car in about three weeks because they were waiting for parts because they had to replace the transmission lines and the radiator fan. But before I got anything replaced, my steering was really sensitive. If I turned the wheel really slightly to the right for example, I could do a right turn onto a different road. Now I have to turn the wheel more in order to do the same turns. The steering wheel feels like, tighter, for lack of a better word. I don't really know how else to explain it. But now it's not nearly as sensitive. Does this have anything to do with the new hose? Or is it every just in my head because I haven't driven my car for almost three weeks?

Resolved Question: I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my transmission is grinding (the fluid levels are normal) WHATS WRONG?!?

I've recently noticed the transmission grinding while upshifting in random gears, downshifting in random gears, and in reverse almost every the time. I've checked the fluid levels every other day since i purchased the vehicle last year. Approx. 6 months ago I had a sensor go out that wouldn't allow the Jeep to shift out of 1st gear, could this have something to do with my current problem (either the part itself caused another problem, or the mechanic didn't put everything back together properly). It has 145,000 and my mechanic warned me that I should be extra vigilant as it nears 150K, I just want to know exactly how bad this is, and hopefully not my worst fear (funeral for the transmission).

Resolved Question: Are Jeep Wranglers good for a country commute?

I live in a tiny Ontario town and I commute through the country to work 25min. Somedays the snow is bad but my 10yr old sedan with snow tires can hold the road sufficient enough but again it's 10yrs old. I've always wanted one and am wondering. I steer a cement truck for a living so I'm not concerned about a rough ride. My wife has a minivan that's our family vehicle, no concern about passengers. I have few questions and any opinion is good except don't recommend another vehicle this just about Jeeps. 1) I wan't a vehicle that is easy to work on and the parts are cheap, I've heard both about Jeeps is this true? 2) I wan't a vehicle that is going to last I buy it brand new and run it into the ground years later obviously maintaining it and taking care of it the best I can. How long can a Jeep last before it's not worth fixing anymore. Where I work the yard is a minefield of potholes that wear down my car no matter how slow I go. 2 wheel bearings and entire front end in a couple of years. How durable are Jeeps? Suspension do they need frequent replacing? I won't be offloading really maybe some but very rare. 4) I put an average of $35 of gas in the tank of my 4cyl sedan every week. What would be the average for a Jeep? 5) And insurance do insurance companies like to charge more are they classified as less safe? 6) Do they roll over easy? 7) How are they for handling on roads just light and medium driving no hairpin turns as with cars. Whoops OFFRAOADING, not offloading.

Resolved Question: 91 wrangler turns but wont start?

I left my dome light on over night which drained the battery. A local car parts guy told me he had had success in the past extending jumper cables by attatching two together. (GFs car is stuck in the steer way in front of my car) Tried that but the engine turned really slowly and never got any faster or even came close to starting. Finally said screw it, walked the battery to autozone and had them charge it. Battery tested 100%. Jeep turns like normal now, but doesn't catch and start running. Any ideas?

Resolved Question: Problem with this Jeep?

So this is what my pal sent to me to post about her jeep, any suggestions? It has a difficult time getting enough power to switch from each gear, but once it is in 3rd it is totally fine- it happens only sometimes and sometimes only the first time in a day that it is started up- I am hoping this is every just because of the exhaust leak and not another huge problem. It makes a popping noise and sounds like shit. I took it in last year for the same problem and they could not replicate the issue. They said the person had the wrong spark plugs in, so we got those changed. They were also stupid and forget to put a rubber thing on a part that was spilling gas everywhere- but we fixed that too. I have flooded the engine twice in the past month which could be just me, but I know how my car starts- it's muscle memory. I took it to diagnostics the last time it had problems and it said idle system malfunction. I forget what the part was called but we cleaned it up and it still does the same thing. (it is an automatic) Anyone know what may be going on? Is it a vacuum leak?

I have been to every car parts store and no one can give me a consistent answer or list of parts. And the online stores want me to place a blind order - no bueno. Can anyone pleeeeease help? I can take pictures, receive the VIN, etc. I do not need a how to, just a list. Reason being there are some parts that have two options/sizes for my Jeep model.

Open Question: How to fix the "service 4 wheel drive system" light on 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I have an 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that I bought a few years back and the "Service 4 Wheel steer System" light has arrive on and doesn't close off. When I bought the vehicle, there were 2 of the same tires on the front and 2 of the same tires on the back. The light was not on at the time when I bought the vehicle. I had blown a tire a while back and the one tire needed to be replaced. I brought it into the tire place to have them replace it and they advised me that I should receive every 4 new tires; Sorry, I was a college student at the time and did NOT have $700 to blow on a new set of tires, I could barely afford the one new tire that I had them put on. So after a while, the 4WD service light came on and then my 4WD did not work; When I try to put the vehicle into 4WD, it does not go into 4WD. I have heard things about the transfer case going bad if you don't have every 4 of the same tires. After hearing this, I pulled some money together and bought every 4 new same tires. The light is still on and I still cannot put the vehicle into 4WD. I also feel that when the vehicle is shifting, it shifts silly sometimes, like kinda difficult, not like a difficult slam but just not shifting very smoothly. I realize that this may be in part my fault, but what can I say, I'm not wealthy and cant afford $700 new tires on the fly like that. I have called Jeep dealerships and they want $100 just to take the vehicle into the store and look at it, and that doesn't include fixing anything yet, just to look at it. Ridiculous! Any advice will help or if anyone has a similar story, please share.

Voting Question: I need a rear plastic window for 2004 Jeep Wrangler?

I recently purchased this car and the rear plastic window was stolen. i just went to the dealer to buy it and i gave them my vin # they told me that the car came with a difficult top not a soft top and that this was an aftermarket soft top. this meant that the color for them would be diferent i didnt mind but when i saw the rear plastic window it didnt have a conection for the defroster. So he told me that i needed to buy aftermarket because they didnt have anything with that connection for a defroster. Now im looking for an aftermarket store for jeep parts but i cannot find anything i honestly dont know how to look for the part so i am asking here.

Voting Question: What part controls tje flow of air?

My 02 jeep grand Cherokee has an issue. When I turn the air on it only blows out the front vents. When I switch to floor or defrost it won't switch still blows out the front vents. Even when I turn it off it still blows out like its on if I'm moving. Please help me figure out what part controls the air flow. I know its not the knob on the dash it turns fine its something on the inside that switches the vents different directions.

Voting Question: i have a 1998 jeep GC, im planning on putting 33" swampers and a 6" lift. what else will i need to replace?

i just bought a 1998 v8 grand cherokee, its every stock right now. i want to put 33X13.00 tires below it & im looking at a 4inch rough country suspension lift plus a 2 inch body lift. i know that going way up in tire sizes requires more sturdy axels & steer shaft mods. what exactcly will i HAVE to do replace & what would just be a good idea. i know im looking at a pretty steep price already but im hoping that i can keep the lift/tires the bulk of the cost if possible. help? & sources for the parts i need that are budget friendly will most likely receive the best answer with a good explanation.

My oil pressure used to remain constant (about the 1/2 way mark). But when I accelerate, it increases to about 3/4. When I idol it goes back to 1/2 way. Is this normal? Additional information: I live in the snow part of the year.

Resolved Question: I don't feel safe after having my car stolen.?

Two sundays ago my jeep got stolen, from right out infront of my home early in the morning. I live in johnson county which is a very well off, nice, safe (what it seemed) county in kansas. They found my car the thursday after it was stolen in Kansas City, Missouri. It was found in a very bad place down there, on main road. Its a very crime, gang place. My jeep had the back window smashed out, the tailights smashed out, dents, scratches, ignition ripped out (I'm actually picking up my jeep from the store on friday, and can steer him again) . The dectitice found a bandana in my car with gang writing on it. The creepest part is, the person whoke stole my car took a picture of me and my god son. I am so disturbed by this that they know what I look like and where I live. I no longer feel safe. I walk around with a bat with me at every times, I don't receive any snooze anymore, I fear for my life. And I'm only 20. What can I do to help with this, is this normal to feel like this?
